Palmaïa, The House of AïA, is an all-inclusive wellness resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Since opening in 2020, it’s built a reputation for mostly plant-based dining, sustainable practices, and a focus on healthy living. I’ve stayed at Palmaïa three times now, and my first visit back in 2022, not long after it opened, left me in awe of the property—but the food didn’t quite measure up.
Fast forward to my latest stay in August 2025, and wow—Palmaïa has leveled up in so many ways. The food is some of the best I’ve ever tasted (I honestly wish I could eat like this every day!), and they’ve even added a cold/hot plunge, which is a perfect way to start the day. So, let’s get into it—here’s my honest review of Palmaïa, The House of AïA.

Luxury Suites with a View
On this trip, my boyfriend and I stayed in a King Suite Ocean View, and I was obsessed. The king bed was super comfortable, the bathroom featured a huge soaking tub, and our balcony looked out over the stunning turquoise sea. Waking up to sunrise views and the calls of howler monkeys? Pure magic.
I’ve also stayed in the Queen Suites when traveling with friends, and they’re just as stunning. They have two queen beds and double showers, though no tub, and share the same clean, modern design with natural textures that immediately make you feel relaxed. The architecture and landscaping at Palmaïa are equally impressive—open-air spaces, lush jungle greenery, and thoughtful touches of wood and stone make it feel like part of the environment rather than a typical hotel. The resort is built up rather than out to preserve the natural surroundings, and wildlife roams freely. On my first two visits, I didn’t see much, but this time I spotted iguanas, coatis, and more.

A Wellness Retreat First, a Resort Second
What really sets Palmaïa apart is how it focuses on wellness and spiritual growth. This isn’t your usual all-inclusive with endless poolside cocktails (although you can definitely get that here if that’s your vibe!)—it’s more like a retreat, where each day is about slowing down and reconnecting with yourself.
During our stay, we had access to all of the resort’s activities—there are about 30 each week—and they’re all included. Options range from morning beach meditations and several styles of yoga to gong bath sound healing sessions, art classes, cacao ceremonies, and even something intriguingly called ‘mind control’ (don’t worry—it’s nothing scary, more like learning to focus and tune into yourself). You can pick and choose what to join, or simply lounge by the ocean. There’s no pressure, which makes it approachable and customizable whether it’s your first retreat or your tenth.
In addition to the scheduled activities, you can take a dip in the on-site cenotes, start your day with the cold/hot plunge, relax at the gorgeous pool with swim-up bars, or hop on one of the shared bikes to cruise around the resort at your own pace. They also have a kids’ pool and waterpark.

Food That Feeds the Body and Soul
The food at Palmaïa has come a long way since my first visit. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Charly García, the menus are mostly plant-based, though you can add animal protein if you’d like. Everything is clean, flavorful, and nourishing, with agave replacing refined sugar.
Variety is a highlight here. There are four sit-down, full-service restaurants (two open each night to choose from), a fast-casual café serving juices, coffee, sandwiches, and salads all day, and Charly’s Vegan Tacos food truck—which you absolutely cannot miss. On top of that, 24-hour room service and a fully stocked mini bar are included in your stay. Whether you’re in the mood for a fancy dinner, a quick healthy bite, or a snack on your balcony, you’re covered. Every meal left me feeling satisfied, energized, and nourished—never weighed down like at some resorts.
My favorite of the dinner restaurants were Su Casa and Mar de Olivo (Italian). I didn’t much care for Ume (Asian-inspired)—I’ve had better vegan sushi.

Service That Makes You Feel at Home
The service at Palmaïa is truly next-level. Staff remember your preferences, check in to make sure you’re enjoying your food and drinks, and anticipate your needs without ever feeling intrusive. Little touches—like nightly turndown service or personalized recommendations—make it feel like every detail has been carefully considered. When you check in, you’re assigned a nomadic guide to help navigate the resort and make sure your stay goes smoothly. And if you have any questions or need anything at all, you can simply text them.
So, Is It Worth the Price?
At around $1,000 a night, Palmaïa is definitely a splurge. But when you factor in unlimited food and drinks, dozens of wellness activities, luxurious rooms, and top-notch service, it’s worth every penny. Personally, I’d rather spend a little more and get exactly what I want than snag a deal on an all-inclusive with limited vegan options and no focus on health.
This isn’t the place if you’re after late-night parties, sugary cocktails, or buffets of fried food. But if you want to reset, recharge, nourish your body, and leave feeling genuinely rejuvenated, I can’t recommend it enough. My boyfriend is already asking when we can go back, and honestly, I can’t wait either. Palmaïa isn’t your typical luxury resort—it’s a niche escape for anyone truly interested in health, wellness, and mindful living.
